Cubase SX v. 3.1

Description:

Version 3.1 extends Steinberg’s music production system Cubase SX/SL with the addition of many new features – and at no cost – for all Cubase SX3/SL3 customers. The combination of Studio Connections II: Audio integration and the new External Instruments function ushers in a new era in hardware and software integration. Cubase SX/SL 3.1 also adds a variety of new editing and mixing features that make Cubase SX/SL even easier to use. Professionals working in surround production or mixing environments can now utilize Steinberg’s Dolby Digital and DTS Encoders. And any Cubase SX/SL 3.1 user who needs even more CPU power can run their software on computer systems with more than two processors, including the latest generation of DualCore processors from AMD and Intel.

Feature Highlights

* Studio Connections Phase II: Audio Integration*
Cubase SX 3.1 opens a new chapter in the history of the Studio Connections protocol developed by Steinberg and Yamaha. Cubase SX 3.1 now offers not only Total Recall, but also the direct audio integration for your instruments. Compatible Yamaha units such as the Motif ES synthesizer can be integrated just like VST instruments, monitored in the powerful Cubase SX mixer and edited using control panels from within the Studio Manager module.

* Seamless integration of External Instruments*
A feature already available in Cubase SX 3.0 for external effect equipment is now also available for hardware sound modules. Connect your external MIDI instrument and you can use it just like a VST instrument: now you can load it in your VST instrument rack, mix it with all the other audio sources in the VST Mixer, add plug-ins and even use the Freeze function.

* External FX MIDI Integration*
With Cubase SX3.1, any MIDI-capable external effect equipment that is integrated as an external plug-in can now be used as a MIDI Device, allowing the unit’s parameters to be easily and quickly controlled from within Cubase itself.

* Support for Nuendo Dolby Digital and DTS Encoders*
Steinberg’s optional surround encoders are now also supported by Cubase SX, allowing the export of projects to both of these professional surround formats.

* Automatic latency compensation for external hardware*
The complete automatic latency compensation for plug-ins was one of the sensational new features in Cubase SX/SL 2. With Version 3.1, this feature has been extended to offer fantastic timing accuracy for external sound modules as well as effect equipment if these are integrated as plug-ins.

* Freezing of MIDI track parameters MIDI track parameters*
which are set in the Inspector such as program, transpose or velocity compression can now be converted to “real” MIDI events with this useful new feature. This function is also available for MIDI insert effects, allowing, for example, an arpeggio to be “rendered” into the track with only a single mouse click.

* New "Equal Power" Panner*
In addition to the existing “Equal Gain” panning laws a new “Equal Power” panning law has been added to the pan modes which are available in the project setup dialog of Cubase. This can result in smoother pans across the stereo or surround field since the power of the signal will remain the same regardless of the pan position.

* Enhanced Mixer Handling*
Mixing in Cubase SX/SL 3.1 is now even quicker and easier with added copy functions for mixer channels and over 50 new keyboard shortcuts for direct control of the mixer.

* Extended Archive Functions*
Archiving projects is even more flexible in Cubase SX/SL 3.1. During import, individual tracks can be selected within an archive. During export, the individual files themselves no longer have to be exported, as links to existing files can be created instead.

* Extended Multi Processor Support*
From version 3.1, Cubase SX and Cubase SL can now use the added performance gained by using more than two processors. This includes the latest DualCore processors from AMD and Intel. This means considerable “real-world” performance gains that allow even more plug-ins and VST instruments to be used.
